Fractional Head of Marketing & Partnerships

Senior experience. Fresh thinking. Without the full-time hire.

Not every business needs a full-time Head of Marketing. But that doesn't mean it wouldn't benefit from having one.

Maybe your business is growing, but your marketing resources haven't quite kept pace. Perhaps you've got a great team that needs some senior direction, a commercial opportunity you want to explore, or a mountain of ideas and not quite enough hours in the day to make them happen.

That's where I come in.

With nearly 20 years of experience leading marketing, developing commercial partnerships and growing audiences across international and New Zealand markets, I can bring senior-level expertise into your business without the commitment of a permanent appointment.

Think of it as having an experienced marketing and commercial leader in your corner, with the flexibility to work around what your business actually needs.

Experienced leadership, tailored to your business.

Every organisation is different. Some need someone to take the lead on marketing strategy and oversee delivery. Others need help managing a team, identifying commercial opportunities or bringing more structure and direction to their marketing.

I work alongside business owners, leadership teams and existing marketing departments to provide the experience, perspective and practical support needed to move things forward.

Where I can help

  • Marketing strategy & leadership: Setting direction, establishing priorities and ensuring your marketing activity supports wider business objectives.

  • Commercial growth & partnerships: Identifying opportunities to develop revenue, build valuable relationships and make more of your existing audiences and assets.

  • Team leadership & development: Supporting, mentoring and managing internal teams, helping them work with greater clarity, confidence and purpose.

  • Campaign & project oversight: Leading marketing programmes, guiding creative development and keeping campaigns, launches and projects moving in the right direction.

  • Budget & resource management: Making informed decisions about where to invest, how to allocate resources and how to get better value from your marketing spend.

  • Agency & supplier management: Briefing and managing external partners to ensure everyone's working towards the same objectives.

  • Performance & accountability: Establishing meaningful measures of success, reviewing results and adjusting activity to improve outcomes.

Whether you need strategic oversight, hands-on involvement or a combination of both, we'll establish an approach that works for your team, your objectives and your budget.

Who is it for?

Fractional leadership can be particularly valuable for:

  • Growing businesses that need senior marketing expertise but aren't ready to recruit a permanent department head.

  • Entertainment, events and experience-led organisations that need experienced leadership across marketing, audience development and commercial activity.

  • Businesses with established marketing teams that would benefit from additional strategic direction, mentoring or commercial expertise.

  • Organisations navigating change, launching new initiatives or building new revenue opportunities.

  • Businesses with a temporary leadership gap that need continuity, experience and someone who can get up to speed quickly.

It's a flexible way to bring senior-level thinking into your organisation while making the most of the people and resources you already have.

Why work with Why Marketing?

I've spent much of my career building and leading marketing functions, often in environments where ambitious objectives, tight budgets and challenging deadlines are all part of the fun.

From developing marketing and commercial partnerships for The Walt Disney Company to leading sales and marketing at Pop-up Globe, I've worked across the full spectrum of strategy, creative campaigns, team leadership and commercial growth.

As Head of Marketing, Tickets & Communications for World Choir Games 2024, I led a major international event's marketing function, bringing together creative, media, PR, ticketing and partnerships.

More recently, as Head of Business Development for Live Nation Venues New Zealand, my remit expanded further into commercial revenue generation, premium product development, strategic partnerships and customer experience.

It's given me a broad perspective on how marketing and commercial functions can work together to create real value for a business.

I enjoy the big-picture thinking, but I'm equally comfortable getting involved in the detail. And I understand that sometimes the best strategy in the world means very little unless someone can actually make it happen.

That's the balance I bring: strategic thinking, commercial experience and a genuine willingness to roll up my sleeves.

Let's talk about what your business needs.

How does fractional leadership work?

It's much simpler than it sounds.

Rather than employing a full-time senior marketing or commercial leader, you engage Why Marketing for an agreed amount of time each month.

I become an extension of your team, getting to know your business, understanding your objectives and taking responsibility for agreed areas of your marketing or commercial activity.

We establish clear priorities, responsibilities and ways of working from the outset, with regular opportunities to review progress and adapt as your business evolves.

This might mean working with you one or two days a week, providing ongoing strategic direction, leading your marketing team or overseeing important commercial projects.

And because I can work with your existing people and suppliers, there's no need to reinvent the wheel. Sometimes it's simply a matter of getting everyone pulling in the same direction.
